Living Inka Village of Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley is our base.
This town is a best kept secret, tour companies bus tourists here to get the train to Machu Picchu and generally miss it’s magic.
The town is watched over by Tunupa, the god of abundance, who’s face is calved into the mountain Pinkuylluna.
It’s also home to a magnificent fortress with sun and condor temples, ñusta bath, miliary, prison and quarantine sections and more, a vast archelogical centre. Between this magnificent mountain features the oldest living inka village, with cobbled streets and water channels.
Many live on earth floors with guinea pigs keeping warm by the wood burning oven in the kitchen. The streets and plaza burst with energy and colour twice a year for the town festivals: Reyer’s in January and Lord Choquekillka in May. Various folklore dance groups parade the plaza in amazing costumes carrying effigies between the 3 temples in the town.
